HILLARY ANZIS-HOSTETLER PAINTING

MY PAINTING BLOG

MY WORK FOCUSES ON PORTRAYING LIGHT AND ATMOSPHERE IN THE CONTEMPORARY LANDSCAPE USING A VARIETY OF PAINTING MEDIA , SUCH AS OIL PAINT , WAX , ACRYLIC, AND OTHERS. I PAINT PERCEPTUAL IMAGES , WITH A MODERN TWIST. BY PLANNING THE COMPOSITION THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHIC CROPPING AND DIGITAL MANIPULATION , I TRY TO CREATE A MYSTERIOUS , AMBIGUOUS, VIEW TO THEN PAINT IN A CLASSICAL ,YET BLURRED SFUMATO METHOD . I WANT THE VIEWER TO PAUSE AND CONSIDER WHAT THEY BELIEVE THEY SEE, WHAT TRULY CAN BE SEEN, AND ALSO WHAT MAY BE HIDDEN IN THE VISUAL WORLD. OTHER ARTISTS I APPRECIATE INCLUDE: CONTEMPORARY UNSCHARF PAINTERS, GERHARDT RICHTER, THE AMERICAN TONALIST MOVEMENT, THE HUDSON RIVER SCHOOL , AND OTHER AMERICAN ARTISTS SUCH AS MILTON AVERY. MY CURRENT WORK EXPLORES THE INTERSECTION OF PAINTING , DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY, MASS MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY .

LOOKING FORWARD TO SPRING

Sunday we set our clocks to "Spring Forward". Hopefully our showers today will bring on the Spring flowers. This week, I have been seeing the tops of crocus and daffodil greens popping up in my garden. Surely the nice weather can't be far behind.

LUMINOUS ROSE BOUQUET

I have been experimenting with different techniques in floral paintings this winter. This is one of my favorites. I really like the transparent and opaque layers mixing together in the roses and the glass vase, creating a luminous halo around the bouquet. The background is textured a bit , in a neutral dark burnt umber color. It reminds me of leather, a nice foil for the feminine floral arrangement. The painting is oil on stretched canvas, 9" x 12", and is for sale . Contact me if you are interested. Enjoy being inside and warm in the cold weather !
